School is more than school.
The community that surrounds our children dozens of hours each week either reinforces what we're building at home or tears it apart—one assignment, one joke, or one correction at a time.
So yes, as Christian parents, academic excellence is non-negotiable. But character formation? It matters at least as much. Probably more.
We shouldn't have to choose between the two.
At The River Academy, we don't.
THE RIVER ACADEMY EQUIPS
CHILDREN FOR LIFE IN A COMPLEX WORLD—
Anchored by Jesus.
Unshaken by culture.
Propelled by purpose.
"That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit inseason and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers." -Psalm 1:3
You have to meet them—our pride and joy.
We’ve had the joy of watching students become the kind of young people others naturally want to be around—
Confident, but not arrogant.
Curious, but not easily swayed.
Grounded in truth, and gracious in how they carry it.
They ask good questions, listen well, and show up for each other. Over time, they become steady friends, trustworthy classmates, and humble leaders—each in their own way.
Classical education shaped history’s greatest minds—from Plato to C.S. Lewis. At The River, that same
approach is carried out in a close-knit, Christ-loving community where students are known, challenged, and loved.
Our approach to learning.
Mind
Students learn how to think, not what to think. Instead of racing through facts, we slow down to help them understand. Through rich reading, thoughtful dialogue, and careful writing, they learn to reason well, follow curiosity, and engage with confidence.
Intellectual Development
Heart
Students don’t just learn about God in Bible class—they learn to see His presence in everything. In math, they discover order. In literature, they wrestle with truth and beauty. In science, they marvel at His design. Through it all, their hearts are shaped by what is good, true, and lasting.
Character & Spiritual Formation
Influence
Students practice the art of thoughtful, persuasive communication. From rhetoric to thesis presentations, they learn, listen with humility, and engage with conviction—so when they leave, they’re not just informed. They’re ready to lead.
Outward Impact
Our graduates go into all sectors—medicine, ministry, business,
trades, home—serving faithfully wherever God calls them.
“ Brooke Bowe has quickly become a valued member of our team, showing genuine care for her colleagues, earning respect in the community, and engaging confidently with clients. "Can a school be both robust and relational?"
We believe it has to be. At The River, we hold students to a high standard—academically, spiritually, and personally. That standard, though, is never separated from care. Our teachers walk closely with students. They don’t just notice when someone is struggling—they lean in. They ask, they listen, they love, and they guide.
That’s also why our classrooms are phone-free—not just to limit distractions, but to protect the kind of joyful presence that makes true connection possible.

It’s not just old books and Latin. At The River, classical education means teaching students how to think, not just what to think. In the early years, that looks like memorization, recitation, and joyful exploration. As students grow, they engage in Socratic dialogue, read whole works that are time-tested, study logic and rhetoric, and practice persuasive writing and public speaking—all within a Christ-centered worldview.
-
Yes. We offer AP and honors courses—still taught classically. By junior and senior year, students can build a competitive transcript while continuing to grow in character, conviction, and clarity.
-
Yes—and intentionally so. Our upper grades are academically challenging, with a focus on synthesis and integration, public speaking, and critical thinking. Two former college professors teach in our upper school, and The River alumni regularly outperform their peers in writing and reasoning.
But we don’t believe in burying students with busywork. Our rigor is thoughtful, not overwhelming—designed to stretch students without burning them out. It’s deep, integrated learning that forms wisdom, not just transcripts. -
With grace and truth. Our teachers and staff are deeply relational and intentional. When conflict arises, we guide students toward heart-level growth—not just behavior management. Discipline is rooted in Scripture and aims at restoration rather than shame.
-
They can—and they thrive. The River’s students play on local high school teams, take part in community arts programs, and pursue extracurriculars that match their interests and gifts. On campus, we offer middle school basketball and volleyball, and we’re expanding our musical offerings—including violin and piano lessons taught by one of the Valley’s top instructors.
While we don’t offer every program in-house, our families find creative ways to plug in to the myriad extracurricular activities outside of our community such as Stage Kids, dance, cross country and track, lacrosse, baseball, and much more—and we’re always working to grow what’s available here, too. -
As an independent Christian school, we’re not funded by a larger denomination or church network. That means our tuition reflects the actual cost of providing a high-quality, Christ-centered education—led by deeply invested teachers, with small class sizes and a rich academic and spiritual foundation.
We know that cost can feel like a barrier to some, which is why we offer need-based tuition assistance through a confidential and fair process—and we’re committed to doing more.
We’re actively building partnerships with churches, businesses, and individuals who believe in what we’re doing—and want to help make it possible for more families. In fact, some families have even invited their church or employer to sponsor part of their tuition as a way to invest in the next generation. -
Yes. We believe that finances should never be the reason a family misses out on the right educational fit. That’s why we offer need-based tuition assistance through a confidential process managed by an independent third-party organization—ensuring fairness, privacy, and care for every applicant.
If you’re wondering whether your family might qualify, we encourage you to reach out. We’re happy to walk you through the process, answer your questions, and help you take the next step with confidence.

Our teachers are the heart of the school. Some are former college professors. Others are veteran educators, authors, or credentialed specialists. What they all have in common is a deep love for Christ, a commitment to relational teaching, and a desire to see each student grow into precisely who God designed them to be.

We meet students where they are. For those who need extra help, we offer one-on-one support in areas like reading, writing, and executive functioning—led by experienced educators who know how to build both skills and confidence.
For students who need more challenge, we offer deeper engagement—not just more work. Younger learners stretch through rich literature, advanced vocabulary, and Socratic dialogue. In high school, students can take AP and honors courses, develop formal logic and rhetoric skills, and complete a capstone senior thesis.
Every student is different. That’s why we’re intentional, flexible, and committed to helping each one grow—in both ability and character.

Because Rivers reach.
The rivers in our valley give life to everything around them—orchards, farms, families. They don't shout. They just run deep—steady and faithful, shaping the valley one season at a time.
That’s how we think about life at The River Academy, too. We’re not aiming for flash or shortcuts. We’re forming students slowly and intentionally—day by day, year by year—so they too can weave their influence into a world that needs them.
