The River Academy hosts an annual Mock Trial Team, which competes around the state in various YMCA Mock Trial Sponsored Events. The TRA team has gone to the State Competition for the last 9 years and has placed as high as 3rd place against some of the largest public and private schools in Washington. Mock Trial is one of the most formative activities we do as a school. Not only does it build relationships, competition, and camaraderie of team sports, but it also sharpens students’ logical and rhetorical skills.
Starting in 4th grade, students have the opportunity to participate in this extracurricular activity. Students learn engineering and computer programming concepts by designing, building, and programming small-scale robots.
Students in Lego Robotics at The River Academy will also have the opportunity to take their robots to competitions.
Students will experience countless field trips while enrolled at The River Academy. From a Physics competition at Silverwood to a trip to the Flight Museum as the culmination of 20th Century American History, students will find that learning at TRA is fun and active.
Students in 7th through 12th grade have the opportunity to join the drama club. Each year the drama club puts on a performance in the spring that is typically student directed and produced. Past productions include Pinocchio, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, and Murder’s in the Heir.
