Admission Procedures & Requirements

School Uniforms

UNIFORM GUIDELINES

Students attending The River Academy are required to wear a uniform to school and all school sponsored extra-curricular activities such as Tutoring, Mock Trial, Chess Club, etc. The uniform details and ordering information will be given to each family upon admission to the academy.

General

The River Academy is a workplace for students as well as for teachers. Students should dress in a way to demonstrate their respect for the academy. Therefore, students will present themselves in the following way:

1. Students will dress neatly:

Uniforms should be clean and not crumpled
All shirts tucked in
Shoes tied
No holes/tears in clothes
Clothing appropriately sized for the wearer
No hats allowed

2. Students are to be clean:

Recently washed/bathed
Hair neatly kept - no "bed head"; boys appropriate length
Hair color/highlights shall be in natural hair color tones
Older boys - clean shaven

3. Students will be modest:

Blouses/shirts buttoned sufficiently
Jewelry and accessories will compliment and not be excessive or detract
Skirt lengths should be knee length
Ear piercing for girls is okay (no more than two per ear)
All other body piercing not allowed
Tattooing not visible

Enforcement

Staff members will be observing students to ensure that our uniform and grooming expectations are being complied with. If a staff member or adult volunteer sees a violation of these expectations, they will follow this procedure:

1. First and second offense - an Out of Uniform Notice will go home and is to be signed by a parent, and returned the following day. On the second offense, if the student did not wear their "dress" uniform on the required day, they will be required to wear it the next day.

2. Third offense - The staff member will discuss with the Headmaster and determine the appropriate action, based on the situation and attitude of the student. At a minimum there will be a phone call made to the parent.

It is important to note that a series of Out of Uniform notices can turn into a sinful Attitude/behavior and an office visit.
