Admission Procedures & Requirements

Admission Procedures

  1. Upon return of a completed application, if an interview with the family has not already been held, one will be arranged with the Headmaster (or board in the absence of the Headmaster).
  2. After the interview and after reviewing all other required materials (as stated on the application form), the Headmaster (or board) will make the decision whether or not to admit the student(s).
  3. The School will then notify the parents in writing with the decision regarding acceptance. If accepted, the parents will receive an acceptance letter and a Transfer of Records form, if the student attended another school previously.
  4. All financial arrangements between the family and the school must be understood before an admission is considered final.
  5. The new family is strongly urged to attend the New Family Orientation held at the school during an evening normally in late August.

Admission Requirements for the Student

  1. A child generally must have reached the age of five years by September 1 of the fall in which he would be entering kindergarten.  Exceptions to this will be considered on a case by case basis.
  2. A child entering first grade must have reached the age of six years by September 1 of the fall in which he would enter The River Academy.  Exceptions to this will be considered on a case by case basis.
  3. If a child has successfully completed the previous school year and his academic work and behavior compare favorably to the comparable grade at The River Academy, the child will be placed in the grade for which he is applying. However, if there is evidence to show that the child may not be adequately prepared for the next sequential grade level, with the parents' compliance, he may repeat the previous grade.
  4. The child should understand that his parents have delegated their authority to the school. Therefore, he is subject to the instruction and discipline of the teachers and principal in their prescribed roles at The River Academy.
  5. In general practice, if the student and parents comply with the requirements outlined here, The River Academy will admit students of any race to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to all students. The River Academy does not unbiblically discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, or national origin in the administration of its policies, admissions, scholarships, athletic, and other directed programs.

Admission Requirements for the Parents

  1. Though not required to be Christians, the parents of students in The River Academy should have a clear understanding of the biblical philosophy and purpose of The River Academy. This understanding includes a willingness to have their child exposed to the clear teaching (not forced indoctrination) of the academy's Statement of Faith in various and frequent ways within the academy's program.
  2. The parents should be willing to cooperate with all the written policies of The River Academy. This is most important in the area of discipline (see Discipline Policy and Academy Rules) and work standards, as well as active communication with the respective teacher(s) and administration.
  3. Parents must not be living a life and/or adhering to doctrine contrary to historic Christianity as articulated in the Apostles' Creed.
    Apostles Creed
I believe in God the father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into Hell. The third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting, amen.
  4. In His Word, God forbids us to regard anyone with partiality:
"If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself,' you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors." (James 2:8-9)
Therefore, in obedience to the royal law of God, The River Academy does not discriminate in any regard, against any student or applicant on the basis of race, color, or national/ethnic origin.
